The Rev. Jesse Jackson has been a familiar face in Las Vegas, especially among union laborers, and local Culinary members and their supporters who are joining millions nationwide mourning his Tuesday death.

“At a time when our fight felt uphill, he gave us courage and hope,” Culinary Union Secretary-Treasurer Ted Pappageorge said in a Tuesday email. “He kept showing up, walking picket lines during the Frontier strike, and standing with workers who were organizing at The Venetian and Trump Hotel Las Vegas.”

Pappageorge was a bartender at the Horseshoe and had been on strike for four months when Jackson arrived to inspire union workers.

That wasn’t the only time Jackson came to Las Vegas to help local workers.
