A $1 billion arena project by a Reno hotel-casino is taking its first step toward construction, according to a new permit filing.
The Grand Sierra Resort just filed a new commercial construction permit for its arena project, which was accepted by the city of Reno on Monday, June 30. The permit filing included more than 20 documents, including multiple plan drawings and reports.
The application is now scheduled to undergo engineering and health reviews, which the project must pass before a certificate of occupancy can be granted.
The permit lists a project cost of $189 million for the initial portion of the project, which will have several phases. Other details listed include a 10,000-seat capacity and site improvements such as a community ice rink and food and beverage booths.
