French gambling regulator the Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ) has warned that the number of excessive gamblers in the country is increasing, with a new algorithm suggesting the gross gaming revenue (GGR) from what is considered “problem gambling” reached €1.2bn [$1.4bn] in H2 of 2025.
Detailing its findings, the ANJ said it deployed a newly developed algorithm to analyse player behaviour across the French market. The model looks at various behavioral indicators linked to gambling including frequency of play, spending patterns and signs of loss of control.
Data collected during H2 2025 showed that around 600,000 players were “highly likely” to be gambling excessively.
