Presque Isle Downs and Casino’s future hangs in the balance as it seeks a five-year license renewal amid declining revenue and increased competition.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board held a hearing Wednesday where casino representatives presented their case for the renewal of their operating license. The casino has been facing financial challenges due to a changing market landscape, including competition from unregulated skill games and a declining local population.
“The market has changed significantly since 2018,” said Lou Frascogna, Vice President and Corporate Compliance Officer at Churchill Downs Inc.. “There’s been a drastic increase in competition from unregulated skill games and challenges related to the current tax structure.”
