A national horse racing publication reported that the cancellation of Thursday’s races came after someone called the Summit Township race track and threatened its jockeys.

“That is not correct,” PID spokeswoman Jennifer See said. “All I can say is that it is related to a safety concern and that we can’t provide more details at this time due to an ongoing investigation.”

The Daily Racing Form reported that the threat was made in a mid-morning telephone call to PID, a few hours before Thursday’s first race. The information came from multiple backstretch sources who asked the Daily Racing Form not to be identified because of potential backlash from track management.
