Odds are just about anyone in Northern Virginia could gin up plenty of good reasons that putting a casino in Tysons Corner is a bad idea. Start with these: Tysons, the heart of Virginia’s economy, is doing well enough without it. With Metro’s Silver Line sparking new construction, the last thing affluent Fairfax County needs is to lean on lower-income slots players to balance its budget.

But one really bad reason not to push ahead with a casino is national security. Yes, our nation’s most sacred cow, the military, is being ballyhooed as Reason No. 1 to reject a casino in Tysons.
