Charges against a man accused of assaulting police, among other offences, during an incident at Casino Rama in 2022 have been stayed.
Daniel Dobson, 41, of Burlington, said he has been “living in hell” after allegedly being beaten at Casino Rama by security staff and Rama police on Dec. 10, 2022.
He said he was then “falsely” charged with eight criminal offences.
Justice A.M. Nichols at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia stayed the charges on April 7 due to the length of time it was taking the case to go to trial, under Section 11B of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
“It’s been hell. I’ve had to spend $25,000 preparing for a trial and then not have a trial for stuff that never happened,” Dobson said.
