Parks, trails and sporting fields are just some of the city amenities that have benefited from a large pot of money Niagara Falls receives for hosting two casinos.
In an annual report, city staff updated the public about how much funding the municipality has received from Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corp. since a new contribution agreement was approved in 2013.
The agreement significantly increased the city’s casino-hosting fees from the previous agreement.
Niagara Falls now receives quarterly funding based on a percentage of gaming revenue generated at Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort and Casino Niagara, which for many years has totalled more than $20 million per year, versus the previous agreement that saw the municipality receive a fixed annual rate of $3 million.
