Online betting in Portugal up nearly 25% year-on-year in Q1

Online betting and gaming in Portugal generated €196.4m ($209.7m) in gross gaming revenue (GGR) in the first three months of 2023, according to Portugal’s Gaming Regulation and Inspection Service (SRIJ).

This was an increase of 24.8% from the same period in 2022, and a slight improvement of €195.3m from Portuguese operations in Q4 2022.

Online sports betting GGR made up €85.7m of the total, while other online activities accounted for €110.7m.

A total of €441.4m was wagered on sports betting during the quarter, down by 3.8% from Q4 2022 but up by 19.5% year-on-year. For other online betting, €2.97bn was placed in bets during the quarter. In terms of which sport saw the highest number of bets, football came out on top.
