A recent online poll conducted by Meredith College found that a majority (57%) of North Carolinians support legalizing commercial casinos. Another 35% of respondents opposed brick-and-mortar casino expansion and the rest of respondents didn’t know how they felt on the topic.
The online poll was conducted from Jan. 26-31 and surveyed 760 registered voters in North Carolina.
North Carolina is home to a pair of operational tribal casinos, and an effort to bring commercial casinos to the state stalled during the 2023 legislative session. It’s likely the topic of commercial casino legalization will be brought up again in 2024, when the state’s legislative session officially begins in April.
