The Cayuga Nation said Monday that mobile sportsbooks, such as FanDuel and DraftKings, have stopped “illegal operations” on its reservation.
The Citizen received a news tip from a user who said they could no longer access mobile sportsbooks. The user lives within the Cayuga Nation’s reservation. In Cayuga County, the reservation stretches from Cayuga and Montezuma to just north of Aurora. It includes several towns and the village of Union Springs.
New York launched mobile sports betting in 2022. Until recently, these users say they were able to use mobile sportsbooks.
David Burch, an attorney representing the Cayuga Nation, confirmed in a statement to The Citizen that the Cayugas “proactively reached out to mobile betting operations to inform them on the law and requirements regarding mobile betting operations on the Nation’s reservation.”
