During the Saratoga Gaming Conference, the future of casinos in lower New York drew regulators, industry experts, and policymakers to the same room.

After so many surmises and postponements, the state is set to issue one to three full-service casino licenses in the downstate region. This decision is likely to change the entertainment and economic landscape of the area.

For the developers, that deadline is added pressure. Simply put, the substantial entry fee of $500 million ensures that only established operators will be applying. Charging an entry fee for that amount shows that the state wants partners who will make impactful investments and capital, create jobs, and sustainably manage upscale traffic.
