With historic flooding pummeling the Ruidoso Downs racetrack again, many are questioning if it can recover. The Downs General Manager, Rick Baugh, said they’re not giving up.
Nearly a week after the Ruidoso Downs Racetrack saw another round of multi-million-dollar flood damage, the G.M. said they’re already looking how to improve the track for next year, and he’s adamant they’re not permanently closing. “As for the track, you know it’s ten times worse this year than it was last year,” said Baugh.
At the height of Tuesday’s flood, the Ruidoso Downs Racetrack saw more than 10 feet of water infield, destroying jockeys’ quarters, scoreboard, timing mechanisms, and other equipment. “This rain this time was just unbelievable, and all the devastation, the homes that were lost, and so forth,” said Baugh.
