Clovis will be getting a racino. In a unanimous vote Tuesday morning, the New Mexico Racing Commission approved Western Gaming’s request to relocate its SunRay Park gaming license from Farmington to Clovis.
The 3-0 vote to approve the move comes after months of sometimes contentious debate. Before the vote, legal staff said the overall goal for the Racing Commission is achieving what is good for the industry.
Senior legal staffer David Dominguez said a recent request by Zia Park in Hobbs to also build a racino in Clovis serves as evidence Clovis is a strong market and relocating would be best for the state horse racing industry.
