Money won from in-person gamblers, internet gamblers and sports bettors all increased in November for the city’s casinos, the latter two categories by double digits.

So why aren’t the casinos happier?

Here’s why: Despite the encouraging year-over-year totals, two-thirds of the city’s nine casinos are still winning less money from their core business — in-person gamblers — than they did in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Here’s another reason: On Monday, New York handed out licenses for three new casinos in the city that will provide another level of tough competition for Atlantic City, with one of them opening as soon as March.
