A former New Hampshire state senator and casino owner has pleaded guilty in federal court after he was accused of misusing government money.

Andy Sanborn, 64, pleaded guilty Tuesday to theft of government funds after he was accused of using more than $250,000 in COVID-19 relief funds on personal items, including a luxury sports car.

Sanborn was charged in May. The U.S. Attorney’s Office said he received a total of $844,000 from the Small Business Administration during the COVID-19 pandemic.

At the time, Sanborn said those funds would go directly to his business, the now-closed Concord Casino.
