The historic Tahoe Biltmore Lodge and Casino sold at a foreclosure auction last week on the steps outside the historic courthouse in downtown Reno for an astonishingly low figure of $153,000, public records show.
The old hotel is located in Crystal Bay, on the Nevada side of the state line in North Lake Tahoe. It first opened its doors in 1946 and was a mid-century landmark for slot machines, entertainment and a cheap breakfast deal before a slow decline in the 2000s. The Biltmore finally closed for good in 2022, when the Newport Beach-based EKN Development proposed to demolish the hotel and rebuild it as a Waldorf Astoria.
