The Netherlands Gaming Authority (KSA) has fined Kindred Group’s Unibet €400,000 [$417,000] for failing to prevent self-excluded players from accessing its platform. The penalty was imposed on Optdeck Service Limited, the company operating the Unibet brand, which has indicated it will not appeal the decision.

The breach occurred during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, when players registered in Cruks — the Dutch gambling self-exclusion system — were able to sign up and place bets.

Cruks, short for Centraal Register Uitsluiting Kansspelen, is a critical safeguard to protect individuals from the risks of gambling.

Players who register with Cruks are barred from accessing online and physical gambling services provided by licensed operators in the Netherlands.
