WarHorse Gaming Inc., Nebraska’s largest casino operator, said Friday it’s secured $300 million in refinancing as part of a deal that will kick start construction of a new casino in South Sioux City beginning next summer.
WarHorse Gaming, formed as a partnership between Winnebago-based Ho-Chunk Inc. and Nebraska Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association LLC, plans a $60 million-plus casino connected to the new Atokad racetrack on an 80-acre site just south of Interstate 129 at C Avenue. The 5/8-mile track hosted its first live thoroughbred races in August.
The refinancing deal also puts in motion continued expansion of WarHorse’s casinos in Omaha and Lincoln, the state’s two largest cities. WarHorse Lincoln’s spring 2026 expansion includes larger gaming areas for machines, more table games, a new steakhouse, and a high-end sports bar. WarHorse Omaha’s expansion opened in April.
