For the past year, the Mississippi Legislature has discussed potentially bringing a casino to the City of Jackson.
House Bill 1989, which was filed last year and would have established state aid for a $500 million casino project in the city, died in committee. More recently, a group called Capital City Forward Together made their pitch to lawmakers for a Jackson casino in December.
All this chatter has made its way to Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth Stokes. Speaking during the Tuesday meeting of the Jackson City Council, Stokes said he was concerned that the Legislature is “going around the city to put a casino in Jackson.”
