Developers are scrambling to meet a deadline to start construction of a new casino in the works for more than 15 years at U.S. 90 at Veterans Avenue in Biloxi.

The project has a new name — Black Marlin Casino — and a date Thursday, Sept. 3 at 2 p.m. with the Biloxi Planning Commission to create a planned development district. RW Development also will ask to change the entire 11-acre property to waterfront zoning and to remove 25 live oak trees and three magnolia trees on the 11-acre property to make way for the casino.

The planning commission review is one of many approvals the developers will need to clear before work can begin.
