A $700,000 heist of a Hartland tribal casino resulted in the arrest of an alleged scammer, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in a March 6 release.

Jesus Gaytan-Garcia, 43, was arrested on charges that he tricked an employee of the Four Winds Casino in Hartford to give him $700,000 from the casino, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan Mark Totten said in the release.

The casino, owned and operated by the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, received a call on July 30 from someone claiming to be the tribal chairperson that needed funds to make an urgent payment, officials said.

A casino supervisor “duped” by the fraudulent claim, officials said, gathered up the $700,000 in cash, left the casino and transported the cash to a Gary, Indiana gas station to hand over the cash to two then-unknown individuals.
