Fallout from a deal that involved a casino in Lansing is back in court as the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians fights Ingham County Circuit Court Chief Justice Joyce Draganchuk’s ruling in favor of two developers.
Tribal leaders believe the Kewadin Casinos Gaming Authority, the tribe’s gaming hand, doesn’t have to pay $88 million to JLLJ Development and Lansing Future Development II as Draganchuk ruled earlier this month because development contracts didn’t provide an option for monetary recourse if casinos in Lansing and Metro Detroit weren’t built and opened.
The authority said it has asked Draganchuk for a motion for relief from the award, and will appeal to the Michigan Court of Appeals if it’s unsuccessful in her court.
