The MGM Springfield casino is facing a $25,000 fine after state regulators found it briefly offered wagers for a Northeastern University college baseball game in 2025.
The penalty was approved at a meeting of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission last week. Investigators said that wagering on the men’s baseball game was open for approximately two hours before it was discovered by a gaming agent, according to a recording of the meeting.
It’s illegal to bet on collegiate sports teams in Massachusetts, except when those teams are playing in national tournaments.
No wagers on the Northeastern game were accepted, said Diandra Franks, the commission’s enforcement counsel.
