The launch of legal sports betting in Massachusetts takes place Tuesday.
That’s only half the story.
Part 1 of the rollout is in-person betting, meaning anyone over the age of 21 willing to go toe-to-toe with state-sanctioned oddsmakers can walk into one of the state’s three casinos and hand their money to a teller or kiosk in exchange for a hope and a prayer printed on a betting slip.
Part 2 is scheduled for early March, when bettors won’t even have to get up from the couch; all they have to do is open an app on their phones and wager from a preloaded account.
