Las Vegas is gearing up for the unofficial kickoff of summer vacations this Memorial Day weekend with hotel room rates at both ends of the affordability spectrum, a brand-new advertising campaign and some new help from Harry Reid International Airport.
Some hotel rooms are going for as much as nearly $1,700 a night starting Friday.
The scramble to come in for the three-day weekend — or leave town — begins Friday.

While many will observe the true meaning of Memorial Day as a solemn day of remembrance of men and women who died while serving in the U.S. armed forces, others see it as the end of the traditional school year and the start of three months of opportunities to take trips.
