On Tuesday, The State of Texas vs. Gambling Machines and The State of Texas vs. U.S. Currency was heard by the 336th District Judge in Fannin County. This marks the first time in Texas a court is deciding whether or not gambling machines are legal.
Fannin County District Attorney, Richard Glaser, said this hearing follows a county-wide seizure of gambling machines last March. “We hit Savoy, Bonham and I think Ector,” Glaser said, “We wanted to seize them all at one time.”
In Texas, skill-based gambling machines are legal but if it is chance-based it is illegal. The hearing will determine if the 35 machines confiscated are considered skill or chance-based.
