Japan is placing a huge bet that a casino resort planned by Osaka will replicate the success of similar venues in Singapore, but the lofty economic ambition comes with the challenges of operating a gambling house.
Prime Minister Fumio Kishida said the so-called integrated resort is important for Japan’s pursuit of becoming a “tourism power house” on Friday, the same day the government approved the casino plan.
“It will contribute to our nation’s growth,” said Kishida.
An integrated resort combines entertainment complexes, such as a theater, casino and convention center, with hotels. Japan expects such resorts to bring economic benefits and spur job growth.
