Riverside Casino and the Washington County Riverboat Foundation have filed a petition challenging the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission’s decision to issue a gaming license to Linn County.
The petitioners are asking for a stay of the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission’s decision.
The petition was filed Thursday, the same day IRGC members voted 4-1 to approve the elusive license needed for the Cedar Crossing Casino planned for Cedar Rapids.
The petition argues the IRGC did not have legal authority to issue a gaming license to Linn County. This was the basis for a previous challenge a couple weeks ago that the commission chose not to decide on. It argued that a ballot measure Linn County voters passed in 2021 did not actually allow for new gaming.
