While a casino and entertainment venue opening in Cedar Rapids this fall is projected to draw some traffic away from Dubuque’s casinos, officials are hopeful recent local investments will mitigate the loss.

“Once a new casino is opened in this part of the state, it is going to permanently impact the casinos around it,” Dubuque Mayor Brad Cavanagh said. “There will definitely be an impact, and I think it’s going to last.
The $275 million Cedar Crossing Casino and Entertainment Center will feature 700 slot machines and electronic games; 22 table games; and restaurants, including one developed with two-time professional golf major champion and Iowa native Zach Johnson.
