Leaders in the Quad Cities were nearly unanimous in their disappointment in the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission to award a new casino license to Cedar Rapids.
“This is a big deal and I opposed the Cedar Rapids casino. I supported the moratorium because we have literally hundreds and thousands of jobs in the Quad Cities with our two casinos. And I’m afraid that the casino in Cedar Rapids is simply going to cannibalize the Quad City casinos.” – Rep. Gary Mohr, District 93
“The Regional Development Authority (RDA) is disappointed by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission’s (IRGC) decision to grant a new casino license in eastern Iowa. As we have communicated, this decision will have a negative economic impact on many eastern Iowa communities. We appreciate the overwhelming support in the Iowa House of Representatives on legislation to renew a gaming license moratorium, and we thank our local senators for their unwavering support in representing the best interests of the Quad Cities.” – Regional Development Authority, Matt Mendenhall, president CEO
