The Cedar Rapids City Council approved a development agreement for the Cedar Crossing casino during a public hearing Tuesday evening.

“We’re talking about an entertainment complex very close to the heart of downtown, which we have supported in other areas. And, I think any community, you know, would be excited to get,” Councilmember Tyler Olson said.

The development agreement gives the city’s blessing for the construction of the casino, should the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) award the group behind the project a gaming license.

A final decision on that will be held when the IRGC votes on the Linn County casino application on Feb. 6.
