Hoosiers enthusiastically responded to the start of new college and professional football seasons last month by opening up their wallets and placing some wagers.
Data released Thursday by the Indiana Gaming Commission (IGC) show Indiana casinos and their online sports wagering affiliates handled $404.1 million in sports bets last month, a 69.8% increase compared to the $238.1 million in Indiana sports wagers in August.
“Indiana sports betting surged as expected in September with the start of the NFL season,” said Jason Jarrett, managing editor of PlayIndiana.com.
“The volume is also 5.6% more than September 2022 despite Kentucky’s launch of sports wagering on Sept. 7. This bodes well for the state as the next three months will drive the year’s revenue with the NFL season in full swing.”
