An amended bill to place a casino in northeast Indiana passed out of the Indiana Senate Committee on Appropriations on Thursday morning after about 25 minutes of discussion.

The bill as it stands removed Wayne County from contention and targeted in essence what is a new license for northeast Indiana’s Allen, DeKalb or Steuben counties.

The bill takes two of the remaining horse racing racino licenses available in the state and converts one to the control of the Indiana Gaming Commission from the Horse Racing Commission, which basically creates a new casino license. The remaining racino license would be eliminated. There originally were five licenses.

“We will continue to monitor the bill as it progresses,” said Wil Howard, president of the Steuben County Board of Commissioners.
