In an effort to keep the community and its guests safe, the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office has introduced its first bomb-sniffing dog at the Hard Rock Casino Rockford.
Dice, a 1-year-old black Labrador and flat-coated retriever mix from Slovenia, is specially trained to detect explosives. He will be the first bomb-detection K-9 actively working in the community.
With Dice’s addition, the sheriff’s office now has seven K-9s. Two other detection dogs have been part of the program for a while.
“It’s something that interested me, but I didn’t want to run a patrol dog. Having a bomb dog is more unique,” said Dice’s handler Deputy Joel Carlson.
