The Gambling Commissioner says some of the larger gambling operators on the Rock have made redundancies.
Though Andrew Lyman would not reveal specific numbers he confirmed that William Hill, Entain and Lottoland have looked at cutting costs and “rationalising”. William Hill was acquired by 888 in 2022, which Mr Lyman explains led to “cost savings” and “synergies”.
He says there are some 3,600 people in Gibraltar employed by the sector, adding that when companies do make redundancies, these people are usually re-absorbed into the market quickly.
Mr Lyman says the industry is under economic pressure in many jurisdictions and the issue isn’t specific to Gibraltar.
