Almost five years after the first decisions of the Parliament on the Covid-19 containment measures, the State will have to open its wallet to compensate interactive gambling operators. The companies have filed claims for €7.3 million, Latvian Television’s “de facto” program reported on Sunday, February 9.

The companies’ claims are linked to an article of the law voted on March 20, 2020, which instructed the Lotteries and Gambling Supervisory Inspectorate (IAUI) to suspend licenses not only for live gambling but also for interactive gambling. This provision was annulled by the Constitutional Court in December 2020, from the moment of its adoption. The ban on remote gambling lasted 63 days. Compensation is now claimed for those days.
