Lawmakers just hit a major deadline at the State Capitol. And while some proposals are officially dead, including several gambling bills, others are very much alive…

“They’re on the operating room floor, all dead. This community is not receptive to the idea of Hawaii being the 49th state to allow for gambling. I don’t know if that’s something to be proud of,” said Sen. Glenn Wakai, Senate Committee on Energy and Intergovernmental Affairs Chair.

In an election year, bold moves like legalized gambling don’t usually gain traction. But still alive on the House side, legalizing online-only sports betting, but also a bill that bans online prediction markets.
