Momentum on Brightline West’s planned Las Vegas-to-Southern California high-speed rail line has all but halted. But there’s still hope that the $20.1 billion project can get back on track.

In 2025, it appeared that Brightline West was set to begin construction on the planned 218-mile high-speed rail system in the Interstate 15 right-of-way linking Las Vegas with Rancho Cucamonga, California, and multiple stations along the way. The service would offer multiple ticketing options, including lounge cars for premium ticket holders, which would include an onboard bar.

Riders would be able to connect to downtown Los Angeles via Southern California’s Metrolink passenger rail system.

The project received a $3 billion grant from the Federal Railroad Administration in December 2023, followed by a ceremonial groundbreaking at the planned Las Vegas station site in April 2024.
