France’s gambling market flatlined at just 0.5% during the first half of 2026 despite a double-digit increase within the online sector.
Data from regulator Autorité nationale des jeux (ANJ) revealed gross gaming revenue (GGR) reached €5.66bn [$6.33bn] in the six months to 30 June. While this was higher than last year, the market grew at a slower rate than the 4.1% recorded in H1 of 2025.
Online gambling was the only market contributor to grow during H1. GGR for this segment increased 11% to €1.45bn [$1.62bn], representing 25.6% of the entire French market, up 2.4 percentage points year-on-year. Active player accounts also increased by 24%.
Breaking down the online market, sports betting was the primary driver of the growth, with GGR for the sector up 11.6% to €995m [$1.11bn].
