A 42-year-old man is accused of running a $3 million illegal online sports betting and money laundering operation after a year-long investigation by Palm Beach and Broward counties’ sheriff’s offices.

Devon Alexander Shalmi, whose home is west of Boca Raton, was taken into custody at the Palm Beach County Jail on Tuesday on charges of bookmaking, money laundering and operating a gambling house. Circuit Judge Cymonie Rowe set Shalmi’s bond at $3 million during a first appearance the next day, and his next court hearing is scheduled for Oct. 10.

Shalmi remains in jail, but if he posts bail, he is required to be under house arrest with a GPS monitor.
