The Carolina Hurricanes talked to the biggest names in mobile sports betting during their search for a gambling partner ahead of legalization in North Carolina.

They ended up with a company more known for selling jerseys and hats than taking wagers.

But the Hurricanes believe Fanatics Sportsbook was the right choice for a long-term deal that will include a retail sportsbook at or near PNC Arena in Raleigh.

“They don’t have the market share, but we feel like they can get there,” Hurricanes president and general manager Don Wadell told WRAL in an exclusive interview. “They’re going to put the resources that’s needed to take advantage of some of the opportunities in the state of North Carolina.”
