Slam dunk. That’s the only way to describe the first month of online sports betting in Massachusetts. It seems that the seemingly constant, ubiquitous, star-studded advertising blitz by those major mobile betting sites paid off.
Buoyed by a rollout that coincided with the March Madness NCAA basketball tournament, bettors laid down more than a half billion in wagers in those 22 available days. That’s according to figures recently released by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission.
And the ease to lay an online bet contributed greatly to sports betting’s immediate success. Of the more than $568 million wagered in March, Commission figures indicate that 96.5% of that action occurred online, with the rest coming from the state’s three sportsbooks.
