The number of accounts held with licensed online gambling providers rose in the first half of the year, with a notable increase in June. The Dutch Gambling Authority (Ksa) suggested the FIFA World Cup may have contributed to the jump. The total number of accounts grew by 100,000 to just under 1.5 million.
Another possible factor is the deposit limit introduced two years ago. The restriction may be prompting some gamblers to open accounts with multiple providers so they can continue betting the amounts they want. The Dutch Gambling Authority believes the rise in gambling accounts may be linked to deposit limits because the number of monthly gamblers remained stable at around 490,000.
