A strong rejection from the City Council led by Republican Kristy Marmorato — voting down zoning changes that could effectively kill a casino in her district at a Bally’s golf course in the Bronx.
“This is not real economic development,” she said on Monday. “This is not housing, a hospital or community improvements. It’s a casino.”
That is, unless the mayor steps in. Mayor Eric Adams could reverse the council’s decision with a veto.
He has five days to make the decision once the council has officially filed its land use decision with the administration, which has yet to happen.
A veto could allow the project to move forward to the next phase of community approvals.
