A former Hollywood entertainment executive lost $5 million in a one-day gambling spree at Mohegan Sun and is now being sued for failing to pay back nearly $2.8 million of the remaining debt.

Ron Meyer, a scandal-plagued mogul who ran media giant NBCUniversal until 2020, ran up the $5 million in losses on Oct. 13, 2017, according to a lawsuit filed in New London Superior Court on May 8 by the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority.

Both Spears and the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority declined to comment on the case. Court appearances in the case have yet to be scheduled.

The Mohegan Sun lawsuit against Meyer is a window into the world of high-stakes gambling. Meyer, a legendary “whale,” sat down with tribal gaming officials two years before his losing spree to fill out a “casino credit application” with a limit of $5 million.
