The board voted 6-1 to put the question to voters during a special called meeting on Friday. The measure’s approval came after a nearly three-hour closed session in which the board discussed that matter and other business, officials said.
The N.C. General Assembly is in the preliminary stages of developing a plan to build four gambling halls in the state to bolster economic development and compete with operations in neighboring states, officials in Raleigh said last week.
