The new Bally’s Casino in downtown Chicago won state regulatory approval Thursday to keep its chips in play at the Medinah Temple for up to three full years.

The Illinois Gaming Board unanimously authorized Bally’s to remain at its temporary 600 N. Wabash home for 12 months beyond the usual two-year maximum after concluding Bally’s is making progress toward constructing a permanent casino, but cannot reasonably do so in the previously allotted time frame.

Bally’s Chicago General Manager Mark Wong told the board that Bally’s won’t even get control of its permanent casino site, located at Chicago Avenue and Halsted Street in the city’s River West neighborhood, until early July 2024.
