Per Widerström, chief executive of evoke plc, has been named in a private criminal complaint by an Austrian physician seeking to recover historic gambling losses.
Widerström, as well as the business’ former international managing director and several evoke-owned companies, were named in the complaint to the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office last Thursday (13 November).
A statement of facts included with the document alleged the group had been illegally organizing gambling in breach of Austrian law and called on the prosecutors to investigate the matter.
The news comes as some lawyers have had success in getting operators to return historic gambling losses to players in European grey markets.
