California: Leadership shuffles at 81-year-old Players Casino in Ventura

The longtime general manager of a Ventura poker establishment that dates back to the 1940s has left the business.

An application to renew Patrick Berry’s license as director of the corporation that operates the Players Casino card room was “abandoned” at a Feb. 22 meeting of the California Gambling Control Commission in a move ending a tenure that began nearly a decade ago. A commission spokesman said Berry’s license expires Thursday, meaning he can no longer act as a supervisor for the card room.

The card room is licensed by the state to operate 19 tables for Texas Hold ‘Em poker, blackjack and other card games. The business’ license was renewed for another two years by the Gambling Control Commission. That board also renewed director licenses for Monica Donohoo and Marina Martinez.
